BWI Airport

Located approximately 10 miles south of Baltimore and 30 miles north of Washington DC, the BWI Airport is an international airport providing passenger and freight services to the region. Construction of the Friendship International Airport began in 1947 and was opened for business three years later under the presidency of Harry S. Truman. In 1973 under the ownership of the Maryland Department of Transportation the airport was renamed Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI). Today the facilities cover 3596 acres and serve approximately 20 million passengers and more than 500 million pounds of freight and mail per year.
