SoftKernel puts objects inside real-time applications. Beyond the benefits of objects languages and methodologies (modularity, evolutivity, productivity, security,...), Softkernels architecture -a collection of co-operative stand-alone modules-, makes it :
- Faster : no system calls interface (slows access to services and hide preemption)
- More compact : only micro-kernels (system, class, thread, process, driver,...) used by the application are loaded in RAM or ROM. In addition, every micro-kernel is re-entrant and sharable.
- More evolutive : a new micro-kernel may be remotely loaded and/or started at any time. The application may change without modifying existing binaries, and thus without side-effects nor revalidation.
- More opened : Softkernel is getting along with inter-operability standards like CORBA.
- More productive : objects are getting along with mechanisation. Softkernel, SoftNet, SoftCom, SoftWin, SoftIO classes have been modelled with OMT. Automatic C++ generation includes real time concepts. In addition, the productivity is improved through simplicity for IT management, inter-thread or process synchronization and communication, split between hardware and software...
- And very much more : security, real-time debug, visual developing tools, version and configuration management, team work facilities, object oriented and real-time networking and GUI, processors, testing, traceability,...
