Why Build a Better Controller? Roughly three years ago, ICP DAS USA collected advanced marketing research data from consumers, requiring the need for a more powerful and integratable solution for their embedded control needs. Only one year later, the result was astounding; the automation world’s first Programmable Automation Controller. The PAC proved to be the ultimate compromising solution to the constantly evolving, and ever changing needs of the modern end user. In lieu of the traditional PC - PLC - I/O infrastructure of the past, the WinCON PAC allowed its users an all encompassing solution containing:
  • A Powerful Industrial PC, capable of writing and executing logic "on the fly", via countless programming languages
  • Boundless Data Acquisition & Logging capabilities (Internal & External)
  • Vast Range of Expandable Digital and Analog I/O Modules
  • Ease of integration and interaction, thanks to Windows / Linux based operating system
  • Limitless Programming Possibilities with optional Linux installation
  • Cost Effective price point enabling industrial control consumers to produce OEM installations with commercial off the shelf parts, eliminating costly downtime and expensive R&D!
  • Recently, ICP DAS USA has focused a great deal of attention towards the emergence of Programmable Automation Control (PAC); a cutting edge frontier of the automation control industry. ICP DAS USA released the first programmable automation controller in early 2003; the Win/LinCON 8000 series. The WinCON controller was the first of its kind, boasting both control and data acquisition capabilities, otherwise unheard of by its competitors. The WinCON allowed users freedom from intricate PC/PLC infrastructures, offering a hybridized method of delivering developed embedded control, all while presenting extremely robust data acquisition capabilities, and the seemingly endless versatility of a Windows / Linux based HMI solution. By becoming a Microsoft Embedded partner, ICP DAS was able to work closely with Microsoft, to develop a device that could offer stout industrial capabilities, via a palatable and familiar GUI for users of any level to interact with. With these needs in mind, ICP ultimately chose to implement Microsoft’s Windows CE.net. (or Linux). With Windows Compact Edition, users were allowed all of the luxuries of a Windows based operating system, while offering the industrial reliability, and virtually crash-proof environment, of a more streamlined OS.
